"McCain strategist Mark Salter said "about a third of it was returned immediately" because they were the wrong size, or for other reasons."
This Time article outlines why McCain's campaign is choosing to ignore the controversy of $150,000 of RNC money spent on Sarah Palin's wardrobe - as if that is what the media focuses on. They may have spent that time and money on training her in policy or... the government. (She did say that she thought the vice president is in charge of the Senate).
"'A third was returned post-convention,' she said. 'Many of the remaining clothes have never been worn.'
Schmitt said Palin intended to donate the items she has worn to charity.
'Regardless, what wasn't returned will go to charity after Election Day,' said Schmitt. "
What they ignore is the fact that it's not what happens to the clothes- it's that they spent RNC money to buy them.
What is odd here is that McCain's campaign has clearly not given up - strategists are attempting to summarize every attack they've had on Obama as a last-minute defense. So why are they rolling over on this controversy and dismissing the charge?
Palin did the same thing, interestingly, with Troopergate, when she decided that it cleared her name. Did the campaign decide that people wouldn't pay attention or that they had no defense on the allegations of abuse of power by both candidates?
